Glass and carbon fibres for composite materials

The structural element of composites, in every textile format the production process requires.

The reinforcement that determines laminate performance

Reinforcement fibres are the fundamental structural element of composite materials. Combined with polyester, vinyl ester or epoxy resins, they make it possible to produce lightweight, strong and durable components for the industrial, marine, automotive, rail, energy and aerospace sectors.

The choice of the most suitable reinforcement depends on the required mechanical properties, the production process and the final performance of the part.

The two fibre types

Carbon fibres

Carbon fibre is the reference reinforcement for high-performance applications thanks to its high mechanical strength and exceptional stiffness.

Glass fibres

Glass fibres are the most widely used reinforcement in composites thanks to their excellent balance between mechanical performance and cost.

Available formats

Roving

Roving consists of a bundle of continuous filaments gathered into a single strand. It is the basic reinforcement from which many of the textile products used in composites are derived.

Chopped strand mat (CSM)

Mat consists of randomly distributed chopped fibres held together by an emulsion or powder binder. Thanks to the multidirectional orientation of the fibres, it offers uniform mechanical properties in all in-plane directions.

Continuous filament mat (CFM)

Continuous strand mats are made from randomly laid continuous fibres. They offer better mechanical performance than conventional mats and excellent impregnation capacity.

Woven fabrics

Woven fabrics consist of fibres interlaced in different weave patterns, such as plain, twill or satin. They offer high mechanical properties and a particularly attractive surface finish.

Multiaxial fabrics

Multiaxial fabrics consist of layers of fibres oriented in different directions and stitched together without weaving. This technology makes it possible to optimise mechanical performance according to the expected loads.

Unidirectional (UD) fabrics

Unidirectional fabrics consist of fibres oriented predominantly in a single direction. They maximise strength and stiffness along the load axis.

Combination fabrics

Combination materials integrate several types of reinforcement into a single product, for example mat and woven fabric, or mat and multiaxial.

The right solution for every application

With a wide availability of glass and carbon fibres in different formats, laminates can be engineered for any structural requirement, combining strength, low weight, durability and cost-effectiveness.

Industry

Tanks, piping and process equipment for chemically aggressive environments.

Marine
